Happy Thank You More Please

Sometimes I like sweet, slightly sappy movies. This is one of them.

I've had this DVD sitting on my dresser, sad and neglected, for an embarrassing amount of time. Now, I wish I had watched it sooner. It made me swoon ever so slightly.

And sometimes movies make you think. I need to increase my gratitude, and be more accepting of the good things that come my way. Let's work on that...

Stephen Powers

Oh, hey blogger! I have been cruel, and I have neglected you. Luckily enough, a wicked bout of strep throat and pink eye have left me marooned on couch island. I've chosen to use this unplanned free time to bring you this, oh sweet blogosphere:
Stephen Powers of First and Fifteenth is taking classic street art and lettering and adding a beautiful emotional component. The result makes me swoon.

Valentine

In honor of Valentine's Day, let's take a brief moment to discuss a few things that make me swoon right now. Shall we? Yes. We shall.

* I am completely, totally, madly in love with these little bookshelves. I'm currently trying to devise a plan to make one my own.

* Anything that reminds me of Paris. (hint: pretty much everything reminds me of Paris.) Beautiful baked goods, stunning art, the old Europe feel. I love it all.

* This VW commercial is so positively precious I can hardly stand it.

So there you have it. Three things that I'm head over heels for right this moment. I hope you too have something you're totally gaga about! Now get off the internet, and go tell someone that you love them. It IS Valentine's Day after all!

I Hope This Gets To You

This by far wins for cutest thing of the day.

After his girlfriend moved across the country for grad school, William C. May enlisted the help of his friends in The Daylights to make this video for her as proof that they could stay close during a long distance relationship. There's a catch: instead of sending her the video directly, he decided to let it get to her organically through friends.

Every girl wishes for this kind of gesture from a guy. Frankly, it makes me wish for a time about a year and a half ago when things were soooo much different.

Feist!

I can NOT stop watching videos of Feist singing live. I've always loved her voice (how could you not?!), but these videos of a show she performed in Paris a few years ago are making me swoon.

Watch a few. You can thank me later.

Etsy Friday Favorite: Sawdust Production

Today's Friday Favorite is Sawdust Production. They take reclaimed wood from barns around Michigan and turn it into frames! They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they are highly customizable. It's nice to see this unused wood reclaimed and turned into something functional AND lovely. I've been in love with rustic looks lately. I'm thinking some of my unframed Hatch Show Print posters belong in these frames.

John Boos

Let's add these to the list of really expensive things that I would love to own. John Boos makes stunning islands, counter tops, rolling carts, end tables, and other gorgeous goods. I dream of a kitchen with an island, and these babies would be perfect for rolling out cinnamon roll dough, or prepping for a complex cake. They're pricey, but a girl can dream, can't she?

Shabby

This mirror collage from Anthropologie is on my list of dream items. If I had $700 to spare, it would be mine right now. This summer will definitely see me trying to recreate this look with some thrift store finds. Ohhhh yes. Just imagine in on an exposed brick wall, with a rustic wooden table under it.... *swoon*

Whale of a Tale

I am seriously smitten with this whale platter by Thomas Paul. Serving platters are my current lust item, and I think this one would really like to come live with me. Lovelovelove.

Morgan M. Morgansen's Date With Destiny

This video by hitRECord has me swooning just a touch. It premiered at Sundance as the primary example of what this new little company is about, and it received a very warm reception. The sequel also stars Channing Tatum and is equally amazing, if not more so. You can watch it on hitRECord's site now! Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeeth Date – The Zeppelin Zoo

Mirror Mirror

I love the look of these mirrored cabinets that were featured on the kitchn. They would make a small kitchen look so big and inviting, not to mention adding a lot of light to a kitchen with few windows. I would love to do this in my future home.

Lavender Delights

I need to plant some more lavender in my herb garden this year so I can make some of this gorgeous lavender lemonade. It looks so beautiful and refreshing. Featured on design*sponge.

Blossoms

DC's weather is known for being a bit bipolar. Yesterday's 90 degrees will turn into tomorrow's 60 degrees, and we'll all be left with some weather whiplash. I've taken to spending the sunnier days outside under our cherry tree with a good book. It's so pretty, in spite of the thin film of pollen covering everything that will sit still, and some things that won't.

How to Train Your Dragon

Last night I went and saw this movie with the ever wonderful Sarah Knowlton, and we both LOVED it. There may or may not have been a tear or two in my eye by the end.

Not only was the story touching and full of laughs, but the art was GORGEOUS to boot. Go see it, ok? Please?

Sweet As Pie

I found this little video on lemondrop with a post title that involved the melting of ovaries, and I have to admit that it's tooth-achingly sweet. There's something about it that makes my heart swim. Working at a children's store as a teenager may have ruined motherhood for me, but things like this warm the cold cockles of my heart.

Here Comes the Sun

I still can't get over the weather. All day, I have been walking around humming Here Comes the Sun.

This song suits my life right now. Things have been rough lately, and I feel as if things are turning around. At least, I'm hoping things are turning around.

Oil Paitings By Daniel Robbins

Daniel Robbins was featured on Drawn! last week, and his blog is entirely worth your time. His oil work is absolutely stunning, don't you think???

(Random side note: When I went to Richmond last spring, I was in this dude's house!)

Bookshelf Envy

I'm madly in love with this little diy bookshelf that was featured on Apartment Therapy (originally on i suwannee) a while ago. I want, need! a bookshelf like this. Isn't it quirky and stunning?

(The Domino's sugar container on the yellow shelf is one of my favorite parts!)

It's a state of mind...

I want to walk these city streets with you, and find the little things they have to offer. Let's go on an adventure. Soon.
