My poor laptop has been feeling a bit under the weather lately. After a rigorous round of virus scans (count em, 5!) things seem to be looking up. *fingers crossed*

Summertime
Summer is OFFICIALLY here! The weather is definitely proof. This means long days at the pool, drinking Arnold Palmers and Magic Juice.

Happy Father's Day!
Happy Father's Day, everyone! My dad is a big goofball, and I love that about him. We love going to breakfast together when I get off work early in the morning, and then heading to the Farmer's Market. We tell each other stupid jokes, and catch up on family drama over omelets.
Happy Father's Day, Padre. I love you very very much!

Etsy Friday Favorite: Papercuts By Joe
Today's Etsy Friday Favorite is Papercuts By Joe. He makes beautiful art by cutting things out of quality card stock.
Personally, I want this mustache trio. It would be so funny to hang in an entryway!
Check out his work, and you too can swoon.

I heart DC.
Sometimes, I am overwhelmed by my city. She is beautiful, and she has a distinct heartbeat. It is incredible that I can walk up to the President's house, stumble through world famous museums, or stand at Lincoln's feet whenever I want. Growing up around here, it's easy to take these things for granted, but every once in a while I will look out and see a view like this, and it takes my breathe away.

Blurg
Today, I have been in such a funk. I'm frustrated and sad. But, I am alive, and for that I am grateful. Hopefully, I can snap out of it by tomorrow.

Expedition Great White
Have you seen the new show Expedition Great White on National Geographic? A small crew, including a marine biologist, is catching great white sharks, and hauling them up onto a large platform in order to tag, measure, and collect DNA. The primary purpose is to gather information on great white mating habits, which are mostly a mystery. The show is pretty interesting, but it also makes me sad. Something about watching them drill holes into their fins brings a little tear to my eye. Also, anyone else think it's really random that Paul Walker is on the boat pulling in sharks?
I love the National Geographic channel, even if it occasionally makes me cry.

Etsy Friday Favorite: Sawdust Production
Today's Friday Favorite is Sawdust Production. They take reclaimed wood from barns around Michigan and turn it into frames! They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and they are highly customizable. It's nice to see this unused wood reclaimed and turned into something functional AND lovely. I've been in love with rustic looks lately. I'm thinking some of my unframed Hatch Show Print posters belong in these frames.

Such a Lovey Day
I was lucky enough to spend my day with a group of gorgeous ladies that are strong, brilliant, and hilarious. We had lovely day full of delicious food and great conversation. Friends, coworkers, mentors... call them whatever you want. I like to call them my second family.
HOPEFULLY I'll have some great pictures to post sometime in the near future. Until then, I need a nap.
(Those oysters were soooooooooooooo pretty and yummy.)

John Boos
Let's add these to the list of really expensive things that I would love to own. John Boos makes stunning islands, counter tops, rolling carts, end tables, and other gorgeous goods. I dream of a kitchen with an island, and these babies would be perfect for rolling out cinnamon roll dough, or prepping for a complex cake. They're pricey, but a girl can dream, can't she?

Haven and Hell
This Heaven and Hell layer cake from Saveur is making me swoon. Layers of airy angel food cake and layers of rich devil's food cake are tied together with peanut butter mousse and milk chocolate ganache. I'm thinking this baby may need to be my weekend project for next weekend.

Another One Bites the Dust
Today I can't stop listening to Queen. Maybe because Freddie Mercury was a badass? Possibly.

Race for the Cure 2010, The Aftermath
Today was the race and it was a warm one! It's always amazing to me how many people participate in this event. When we came around to the 1 mile mark, people were still just starting the race. It's an amazing thing to be a part of, and I highly encourage you to join next year. You won't be sorry.
I know the pictures are less than great, but would you want to carry a camera for 5k? Yeah, I didn't either.

Etsy Friday Favorite: Amethyst Soap
Guess who totally forgot about Etsy Friday Favorites! Last weekend was a holiday weekend, so we'll just say I was taking the weekend off, ok? Good. Now!
Time to get back on track with Amethyst Soap. I'm a little smitten with these natural soaps designed to be gentle on skin. Not to mention the fact that they're beaaaautiful. The amethyst soap bars smell like lavender and the turquoise has a nice flowery, spicy scent. Did I mention that they're gorgeous? Each one comes in a small drawstring pouch, and would make a great hostess gift... assuming you can part with them.

Race for the Cure
Help me reach my goal for the Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure!
My dear readers, this Saturday I'm participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. I've participated in the race for several years now, always hoping to help end the fight against breast cancer.
This year, the event is especially close to my heart. One of my coworkers was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I plan to walk the race with her in mind. She is young, and has two little girls that love silly bandz, knitting (how cut is that?), reading, and learning new things from their fun mommy. I know she's strong and a fighter, but I so wish this disease wasn't even something to worry about.
Any donations would be extremely appreciated (they're tax deductible!), and I hope that you will keep my sweet coworker in your thoughts and prayers.

Music Philosophy
I'm completely in love with the Music Philosophy project coming out of England. Designer Mico Toledo takes philosophical music quotes from the likes of Sondre Lerche, The Beatles, and U2, combines them with inventive typography, and presto! You have something stunning. A new one is posted weekly.

Firefly
I just saw my first firefly of the summer, and I couldn't be happier. Deep down, I'm still 5 years old, and these small signs of summer warm me.
